Ruben Vasquez Baltazar entered eternal rest March 1, 2026, at the blessed age of 94. He was born on February 9, 1932, in Beeville, Texas to Jose Lucas and Juanita (Vasquez) Baltazar.
He proudly served in the US Air Force and later retired from B.I.S.D. He had a passion for playing baseball and was the last living player of the original Beeville Blue Jays. He coached several teams and many young athletes. He married Estella Garcia Baltazar; and together they loved going out dancing, spending time with their family and friends, having get-togethers at home with good music and BBQ. Above all Ruben was a proud father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He never met a stranger and will be forever loved and deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Juanita Baltazar; his loving wife of 55 years, Estella Garcia Baltazar; his son, Robert Baltazar; a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Ann Ybarra; his brothers, Eudelio “Lelo” Baltazar, Jose “Prieto” Baltazar and David Baltazar; his sisters, Estella Holloway, Maria Elva Soliz, and Christina Chapa.
Survivors include his son, Ruben Rene Baltazar Jr.; his daughter, Vera Baltazar Cagle; two stepdaughters, Irene (Edmundo) Hernandez, and Maria Dolores (Rudy) Montez; one brother, Richard Baltazar; his grandchildren, Erica Mendoza, Brian Ramon, Ruby Ceballos, Joe Baltazar, Edmund, Robert and Joe Hernandez, Gracie Lozano, Ruby Willis, Rudy Montez, and Melody Garcia. Additionally, he is survived by his great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 13, at Angelus Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 14, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beeville with Father Richard Gutierrez officiating.
Interment will follow at the Beeville Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers will be Brian Ramon, Joe Baltazar, Edmund Hernandez, Robert Hernandez, Joe Hernandez, Rudy Chapa, Larry Baltazar, and Jimmy Soliz.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to his angels on earth Helly Jimenez, Linda and Bianca Cantu, and Ruby Lopez for loving and giving Ruben the best care that cannot be measured and will never be forgotten.
