Surrounded by his beloved family, Ramiro Vasquez Castillo of Beeville, Texas, went in peace from this world into the loving arms of Jesus on Saturday, October 14, 2023. He was 87.
Ramiro was born January 15, 1936, in Normanna to Nasario Castillo and Paula (Vasquez) Castillo. He met Mabel “Amelia” Garza while in his youth and thus began their love story. The couple married on September 16, 1952, in Beeville and lived happily for 71 years. Everywhere you would see them in town, they were always together and holding hands. You would never see one without the other. Nothing in the world was more important to Ramiro than Amelia and their children. His love and devotion to them was evident every single day and his role as a husband and father was the most important part of his life.
Education was instilled in his children and simply doing things right in life, having respect and love for others was always taught. Having Jesus Christ in the lives of his family was very important. Ramiro received Jesus Christ in his heart and read his Bible every morning. He was a faithful member of St. James Catholic Church. After dedicating more than 30 years with the Texas Department of Transportation, he retired in 1993. He had a passion for music and taught himself how to play the guitar and keyboard. In his younger years, he loved to sing, and you would often hear him sing and play his guitar with his sister, Lupe, on Fridays or Saturdays in the kitchen or outside by a bonfire with his family. Ramiro took pride in staying fit, he was an avid bike rider and exercised regularly. He loved watching the LA Dodgers and Dallas Cowboys as well as western shows.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nasario and Paula Castillo; siblings, Jose (Joaquina) Castillo, Maria Castillo and Jose V. Castillo; stepbrother, Sammy Salinas; and stepsisters, Maria (Julian) Ybarra and Sandy Vasquez.
Those left to mourn his passing include his beloved wife, Mabel (“Amelia” Garza) Castillo; his children, Ray (Alice) Castillo, Ramiro (Sandy) Castillo Jr., Lillie Rose (Mario) Alcorta, Maria “Mayo” (Alcario) Alvarado, Consuelo (Michal) Melendez and Lydia Castillo; his siblings, Connie (Ernesto) Leal, Olga S. (Inosencio) Vasquez, Gloria (Felipe) Ybarra, Rosa (Roberto) Munoz and Lupe (Nick) Carabajal; stepbrother, Juan Salinas III; sister-in-law, Trinidad Castillo; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, at Angelus Funeral Home with the Rosary to be recited at 7 o’clock that evening.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 19, at St. James Catholic Church with Father Jacob Valayath officiating.
