Miguel “Mike” D. Velasco, a cherished member of his community, passed away on June 28, 2025, at the age of 67. He died peacefully at his home in Beeville, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was born on December 28, 1957, in Kingsville, Texas, to Magdaleno Reyes Velasco and Juanita (Davila) Velasco. He was a 1976 graduate of A.C. Jones High School and married Maria Estefana Bustos on May 2, 1981. From an early age, he embodied a happy-go-lucky personality that endeared him to many. He dedicated his professional life to the field of transportation, where his work ethic and friendly demeanor made a lasting impact on those he encountered. Mike’s love for connecting with others was not only evident in his career but also in his personal interests. He found great joy in fishing, barbecuing and cruising around town, often sharing these moments with family and friends. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, but his No. 1 player was his very own Trojan, his grandson, and he never missed a game. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Magdaleno Reyes Velasco and Juanita (Davila) Velasco, as well as his sister-in-law, Debra S. Velasco.
He is deeply mourned by his beloved wife of 44 years, Maria E. Velasco of Beeville, and his son, Miguel “Mike” B. (Roxanne) Velasco III. As a proud grandfather, he leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Arianna, Raul and Grayson Velasco. He is also survived by a close-knit family of four brothers, Daniel Velasco, Noe Velasco, Magdaleno Velasco Jr. and Rey Velasco; three sisters, Diana (Mike) Eppler, Eva (Rudy) Castro and Linda (Daniel) Alvarez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, with a Celebration of Life funeral service at 11 o’clock at Kingsway Church in Beeville. Pastor Isaac De Los Santos will officiate.
Burial will follow at Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Raul Velasco, Daniel Velasco Jr., Angel Velasco, Magdaleno Velasco III, Jose E. Torres, Jr. and Jose E. Torres III.
