Janie Elizabeth "Liz" Martinez, a beloved mother, partner, sister and grandmother, passed away on November 20, 2025, at the young age of 53 in a San Antonio hospital. Born on May 11, 1972, Liz brought joy and compassion to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She was known for her fun-loving personality and strong-willed spirit who was devoted to her family. She was unique and special in a different way to each and every one of her children. She treasured her grandchildren, enjoyed attending game rooms, playing cards, bingo and sharing “chisme” with those around her, always bringing a smile to everyone's face.

Liz was preceded in death by her father, Jesus Martinez; mother, Mela Cumpian; step-dad, Bentura “Ben” Cumpian; grandparents, Juan Zavala and Maximina Zavala; as well as a son-in-law, Eric Garcia: and brother-in-law, Chris Rodriguez.

She is survived by her cherished children, Sierra Martinez, Alexandria Aleman (Alan Hernandez), Antonio (Priscilla) Aleman III and Amberosia Aleman. She took great pride in her role as a grandmother, leaving behind 13 beloved grandchildren: Eliyah, Elana, Eben, Ember, Ethan, Evy and Estyn Garcia, Adryn, Amelia and Abram Aleman and Blake Meimar, Haven Aleman and Luciana Hernandez.

Liz's siblings include her four brothers, Jesse (Clara) Martinez Jr., John Henry (Gena) Martinez, Jason Martinez and James (Dorothy) Martinez, along with her sister, Anna Marie Rodriguez. She shared a special bond with her partner, Ruby Munoz of Kenedy.

A memorial service will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday December 30, at Angelus Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 11: 30 a.m. The funeral service will be conducted there at 12:00 p.m.
