Anselmo G. Garcia

On a windy afternoon on November 17, 2024, Mr. Anselmo G. Garcia departed from this earth as he laid peacefully at home. He was born in Beeville, Texas on a record warm day on January 21,1951 to Mr. Anselmo Garcia, Sr. and Celia Galvez Garcia. He was the third born out of 15 children, and the oldest son of 10 boys. At a young age, he had different nicknames like Güero, Chemo and Moe. As a child, he was a jokester and was known to make his siblings laugh. His unique sense of humor carried on as he grew into an adult.

He married Ms. Lucille Garcia in 1981, and they had a daughter together, Anne Marie Garcia. Moe had two stepsons whom he loved as his own, Dr. Jesse Riojas and the late Mr. Frank Gabriel Riojas. He loved his family and always taught others to not forget their roots. He instilled the importance of education. He wanted his children to be educated, so that they would not struggle like he did working odd end jobs in his early life.

Moe was known to be the family camera man and always there recording school and family events when those heavy camcorders were in style.

Though he did not have a formal education, Moe had street smarts and had many talents. He used his imagination to tell his daughter bedtime stories and created songs for her with his own tunes. Moe had a green thumb and grew several fruit trees and pepper plants. He had gifted hands and was a self-taught handyman and car mechanic. Another nickname he acquired through his handiwork was Moe the Pro. He retired from the Beeville Independent School District where he worked in the maintenance department.

Moe enjoyed creating his own belt buckles that he proudly wore. He enjoyed dining at local restaurants, and he enjoyed socializing with others. Moe had a charismatic personality and always made a friend. He enjoyed watching television and Gomer Pyle was his number one show. Moe had a vast collection of movies. He found pleasure in listening to his eclectic music and reminiscing about good times.

Despite the health challenges he encountered in his later years, he demonstrated a strong resilience, and he outlasted many doctors' prognosis. He definitely left an impact on all those who cared for him along the way.

He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Ruben Garcia, Gloria Perez, Joe Luis Garcia and Benito Garcia, his stepson, Frank G. Riojas and other relatives. We have faith that his loved ones awaited him with open arms, good music, and food in his new paradise.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Anne M. Garcia (Jorge Astorga, Jr.) of Washington, DC, stepson, Dr. Jesse G. Riojas (Marilu), granddaughter, Yadhira Faith Eguia of Mathis, Texas, his ex-wife, Lucille Garcia of Beeville, Texas. He also leaves behind his siblings, Yolanda, Sylvia, David, Willie, Enoe, Freddy, Israel, Rene, Belinda and Sandra; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Joseph Larakers/JPP Family Clinic, Dr. Faisal Khan and the US Renal team, Beeville Christus Spohn Hospital staff, New Century Hospice, Del Cielo Home Health, and Legacy Home Health agencies. A special acknowledgement to Angel Care Ambulance company for providing Moe first class transportation and compassionate care for all the medical care he received. Members of Angel Care will carry Moe one last time to his final resting place.

His caregivers, Ms. Erica Ashmore, Ms. Shalonda Johnson, and Ms. Erica Salas, loved and cared for him. A heartfelt thanks to those who prayed, visited, brought food, and supported Moe and his family during these difficult moments. May the memories left behind be of comfort to everyone who crossed paths with our beloved father, brother, and friend. As Moe would say, "¡Ay te miro!"

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, at Angelus Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7 o’clock that evening.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 21, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the San Pedro Cemetery in Clareville.
